Dr. Carla Beattie

My name is Dr. Carla Beattie and I'm a Senior Clinical Psychologist specialising in working with children, teenagers and families. I hold a B.A. (Hons) in Psychology, an M.Sc. in Applied Psychology and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Queen's University Belfast. I'm also Chartered with the Psychological Society of Ireland and am a member of PSI Special Interest Groups in Paediatric Psychology and Autism. Since qualifying as a clinical psychologist, I've worked with families in a range of HSE and private services including Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, intellectual disability and paediatric health psychology. I also work as an Occasional Lecturer in the School of Psychology at Trinity College Dublin, where I teach primarily on paediatric psychology and working with children and families.

I'm passionate about what I do and am always mindful of the leap of faith involved in reaching out to someone when your child needs help and support, as well as the support that parents can need at times themselves as they navigate the parenting journey. This can be particularly true when your child has additional needs and so in addition to my direct work with children and teenagers, I work with parents to offer support and guidance where needed. Whether it's providing a one-off consultation, conducting an assessment or working therapeutically, I  strive to empower parents and families to recognise the strengths they  hold themselves and to place the child at the centre of all our work.

My approach draws on a number of frameworks including cognitive behavioural therapy, systemic therapy and attachment theory, while I have also completed additional training in compassion focused therapy and motivational interviewing.
